The length of time that well water testing results remain valid vary based on the circumstances. We know that water chemistry is always changing, so it’s important to run regular testing. At a minimum, testing every spring is good practice.
Regular Water Testing is Wise
The question, “How long are well water tests good?” is a common inquiry. Remember, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rules that protect public drinking water systems do not apply to individual water systems, such as privately owned wells. As an individual water system owner, it is up to you to make sure that your water is safe to drink. For this reason, routine testing for a few of the most common contaminants is highly recommended. Even if you currently have a safe, pure water supply, regular testing can be valuable because it establishes a record of water quality.
If you know that you have (or previously had) an issue with your well water, you should typically run basic tests every year. This also applies if you’ve had an arsenic system put in. For most residential locations, we recommend doing comprehensive well water testing every three years just to be safe and keep your records up to date.
