Our Story
Our story began with founder Thomas Marcisso, who was always on the move. Naturally interested in exploring the world around him and finding out how it all worked. When it came time for college, he attended Maine Maritime Academy. There he received his B.S. in Marine Engineering Operations, and U.S. Coast Guard issued Merchant Marine Engineer’s license.
Upon graduation as a licensed Merchant Marine engineer, Thomas began his career at sea. In the Gulf of Mexico, he was an Engineer onboard an oil platform. Onboard the oil platform, production, and potable water quality were paramount to a crew of over 100 and their wellbeing. From here, his career took him around the world, serving in similar positions, including Chief Engineer onboard the F/V Wizard featured on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” No matter where his career took him, there was always one critical fact at sea, the necessity of water production and treatment systems. Ensuring safe potable drinking water was crucial, especially hundreds of miles away from any well, spring, or lake.
With the birth of his first child and a second child on the way, Thomas began to think about work that would keep him closer to home. However, he still needed to fulfill his desire to serve people through meaningful work. As the son of Sam Marcisso, the founder and President of Pine State Services, it didn’t take long for the idea of FONTUS Water Treatment to take hold.

How We Got Our Company Name
Thomas previously worked on a ship named after Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. So, it seemed only natural then that he combined his two lives and named his new company after FONTUS, the Roman god of wells and springs.
