Well Water Testing: How To Get Your Maine Well Water Tested

In Maine, about 50% of residents use well water in their homes, and 1 in 10 of those wells have arsenic issues. Radon, uranium, and bacteria are also common well water problems in southern Maine. Some of these problems you can see (as stains or discoloration), smell (the water is odorous), taste, or feel, but others are impossible to detect without lab tests, so it’s important to keep your well water testing up to date.

Options to Get Your Maine Well Water Tested

Unless you’re a homeowner, it’s unlikely you’ve ever worried about having your well water tested. That’s where we come in. Once you’ve partnered with a water testing company like FONTUS Water Treatment, there are a couple of different options for how to have your well water tested:

  • Onsite Testing: FONTUS offers a free immediate-response water test done onsite. We’ll come to your home and conduct tests that generally take about an hour. This hour will also include analysis and explaining treatment options; the actual testing only takes a few minutes.
  • Lab Testing: for complete testing, lab testing is required when trying to detect harder-to-identify contaminants. We’ll come to your home and take the necessary water samples sent to a third-party state-certified lab. Results generally come back in a few days, and then we’ll work with you to determine the best course of action to remediate any issues based on those findings.

When we’re on-site in your home, we’re generally able to create a proposal on the spot, so you’re not left guessing what the cost or project timeline will be. The only exception is when we identify arsenic, radon, and uranium. These contaminants require the installation of a remediation system, and that needs a more accurate quote.

At FONTUS, we have a Triple Test Promise. This means that we run initial, on-site, immediate result tests for aesthetic issues. If needed, we’ll also send a water sample to a Maine State Certified Laboratory to confirm any findings and test for bacteria, viruses, and hazardous contaminants. After we’ve implemented new systems or solutions, we will test your well water again to ensure those systems are working and your water is safe.
