Thomas Marcisso, our founder, is a licensed Merchant Marine engineer who spent years managing potable water systems on oil platforms and commercial vessels. He served as Chief Engineer on the F/V Wizard, the vessel featured on Deadliest Catch, helping provide safe drinking water for crews operating hundreds of miles from shore. Solving real water quality problems under demanding conditions is what shaped how FONTUS approaches every installation.

When Thomas started a family, he brought that background to Maine. FONTUS takes its name from Fontus, the Roman god of wells and springs, a nod to both his maritime background and his commitment to clean water close to home. How Reverse Osmosis Works

A reverse osmosis system forces water through a semi-permeable membrane, a barrier with pores fine enough to block dissolved contaminants while allowing water molecules to pass through. What comes out on the other side has had the vast majority of total dissolved solids (TDS) removed. TDS is a broad measure of everything dissolved in your water: minerals, metals, salts, and other compounds. Lowering it is one of the clearest indicators that a filtration system is doing its job.

Most under-sink filtration systems include multiple stages: a sediment pre-filter, the RO membrane itself, and one or more carbon post-filters that address chlorine taste and odor. The filtered water is stored in a small tank until you need it at the tap.
